Weight Loss Supplement Rundown: Hottest Products On the Market

With new research coming out every month for which natural supplements are best for losing weight and getting in shape, which one should a girl choose? You don’t want a supplement that will harm your body, which is a big concern, since many of these supplements may have health risks and other factors that surface only after you’ve been taking them for a while.

Don’t risk suffering negative side effects along with your weight loss just because you haven’t been informed about the latest natural supplement trends!

Currently, doctors and nutritionists are suggesting dieters target specific natural ingredients in their supplements to reduce the risk of side effects.

Before you begin taking any form of dieting supplement, take a closer look at some of these popular supplement trends and how they might affect you!

Supplements with Certain Active Ingredients

Most weight loss supplements are crafted around a single active ingredient. In the case of popular over-the-counter supplements, some of the most common active ingredients consist of:

  • Chitosan: A sugar produced from the hard outer layers of lobster, crab, and shrimp shells, Chitosan is supposed to block the absorption of fats and cholesterols into the body, and thus reduce weight gain. Though the evidence for the success of chitosan in weight loss is not entirely firm, some studies have shown success with no side effects worse than a minor stomach upset.
  • Chromium picolinate: Insulin is a critical component of your metabolism, since it helps to control blood sugar and stores carbohydrates, fats, and proteins. Certain studies have indicated that supplements that contain this ingredient may lower the appetite, help burn more calories, reduce body fat, and boost muscle mass. These supplements can also have rare side effects that include insomnia, irritability, headache, and kidney or liver damage for people who have kidney or liver problems.
  • Conjugated linoleic acid (CLA): Supplements that contain CLA claim to help curb body fat, boost muscle, and make you feel full for a longer period of time. In some rare cases, people who used CLA supplements over the long term experienced insulin resistance, which increases the chances of developing type 2 diabetes. Other side effects include stomach and digestive issues.

Natural Supplements

Not interested in putting chemicals into your body just to lose weight? No problem! You can find other weight loss supplements derived solely from natural sources. These supplements tend to be healthier for your body because they help you lose weight gradually and don’t add any chemical toxins to your system.

  • Green Coffee: Green coffee is an extremely popular natural supplement that has shown positive results for weight loss. Green coffee consists of coffee beans before they have been roasted. They work to block fat absorption by the digestive tract rather than blocking fat conversion. This technique allows you to lose weight gradually rather than all at once, which is better for your overall health. Green coffee beans also boost your metabolism and suppress your appetite, and thus reduce the temptation to overeat. As an added bonus, they can boost your energy and help you concentrate.
  • Forskolin: This extract commonly used as a supplement comes from the coleus forskohli plant, which is similar to mint. It has attracted considerable attention in the natural supplement world recently because of its intriguing weight loss benefits. Most supplements still require a healthy pattern of diet and exercise to lose weight quickly, but the fat-burning qualities of this plant have enabled users to lose weight anyway. Because this weight loss supplement is fairly new, there are no conclusive test results with regard to potential side effects, and it’s not yet FDA approved. As a result, users are advised to proceed with caution.
  • Garcinia cambogia: This is a prominent fruit in Indonesia that has garnered a lot of popularity in the last few years. It essentially stops carb-to-fat conversion by inhibiting the enzyme Citrate Lypase, which is integral to the conversion process. This extract will also help you feel full longer so you develop fewer cravings.
  • Gymnema sylvestre: An herb native to the tropical forests of India, gymnema sylvestre is an effective natural supplement that helps you to avoid sugar. When ingested, it binds with your taste receptors to reduce the natural sweetness of sugar, which in turn helps you lower your sugar cravings. This is very effective for weight loss, since less sugar intake means less fat storage.
  • Guggul: Also a prominent reliever of joint pain and reducer of cholesterol, Guggal is derived from the gum of various myrrh trees and helps with weight loss. In combination with a healthy diet and regular exercise, guggal will help your body metabolize fat and enhance thyroid function more efficiently, which reduces fat storage overall.
  • Uva ursi: This all-natural diuretic that comes from the uva ursi plant is also useful for weight-loss purposes. It can be taken to help reduce bloating and water retention, flush excess water from your body, and make your figure look healthier both inside and out. Taken in regulated doses, side effects are minimal if any, though women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should avoid it. If taken in large, unregulated doses, side effects may include nausea, vomiting, convulsions, and gastric discomfort.
  • Synephrine: This is one of the most popular ingredients in natural weight loss systems today, primarily due to its relative success. It comes from citrus aurantium, better known as the bitter orange tree, which is native to Africa and Asia. Unlike the other active ingredient from the bitter orange, ephedrine, which the FDA banned due to serious side effects, the synephrine within citrus aurantium is a safe way to suppress the appetite and give you the strength to choose when and what you eat without cravings and intense hunger pains. Side effects are rare, but they can include increased heart rate and blood pressure, mild headache, and upset stomach.

As you go about finding the right supplement to help you attain the healthy, beautiful body you’re seeking, remember that health comes first. Be aware of the side effects each supplement may entail, and ask a doctor for more details about potential side effects.
